By the end of the year, every gas station must be equipped with a system that captures harmful money. Air quality is constantly monitored by 22 stations in the country.
At each mobile station there is a pipe that sucks part of the atmospheric air, which is distributed by the so-called analysts. Each of them measures a different indicator of air quality.
The main source of the carcinogenic substance is gasoline vapors, which are released when refueling a car. That is why the greatest risk is for those who work or live around gas stations.
Benzene is also dangerous for the driver who is refueling.
By the end of the year, each column should have a special pump on the priming gun. Thus, instead of being released into the air, the vapor will return back to the tank.
"It has been proven that when there is no such system for capturing gasoline vapors, an excess of 7 to 10 times the norm, which is determined for the protection of human health, can occur," said Elena Yakimova, an expert at the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The Oil and Gas Association guarantees that the improvement will not make fuel more expensive. Some gas stations have already installed the system. The fine for anyone who works without it is from BGN 5,000 to BGN 20,000.
